The Streaker Family Fishing Competition was held on Sunday, the 22nd March with 30 boats and about 60 crew participating in the event including a good number of children.
After a bad run with weather at recent fishing events the Fishing Committee was blessed with almost perfect conditions on the day.
Unfortunately, a number of boats were unable to register for the event, missing the registration deadline and no doubt making last-minute decisions to try and enter after the good weather forecast. All members are advised to ensure they enter future events before the registration cut-off to avoid disappointment.
Generally speaking the fishing on the day was okay without being spectacular with many smaller fish (pinkies, whiting, flathead, yakkas) being weighed in. The heaviest fish on the day was a 1.9Kg Gummy caught be Brendan Hocking while the heaviest snapper was a 0.75 Kg fish caught by Anthony Johanson. The Johanson family also won the Fishing Committees - Family Award.
Commodore John Giuliano won the "Jamie Hipkin Memorial Trophy" and prize based on the lucky draw of all registered member participants in the event.
I would like to thank all those who helped to make the event a success including Max Trist (weigh master), Tim Hipkin, Neil Starke (BBQ), Hans Harms (BBQ),Harry Petsios (BBQ) and Anita for her general support of the event.
Finally, a special thanks to our generous event sponsors namely Streaker Marine (Paul Savage), Complete Angler Bentleigh (Claude) and Mark Pauliuk of Southern Bayside Custom Rods, who all contributed to the success of the event.
John Malempre, Chairman BMYS Fishing Committee.
