The All-Species Fishing Competition was held with perfect weather conditions on Sunday, 19th April. The competition saw 21 boats registered, with about 40 crew making the most of the fishing conditions. The early morning was a "cold one", but sea conditions were perfect and the day warmed up nicely during the morning for the BBQ and presentation.
It was very pleasing to see a good number of juniors fishing on the day with both boys and girls well represented.
The fishing was a bit tough but a range of species including snapper, flathead, squid and mackerel were weighed in.
John Giuliano recorded the largest snapper at 1.25 Kg with John Malempre weighing in the largest flathead, a nice blue spot weighing 0.62 Kgs. Other prize winners included Geoff Hill (heaviest squid) and Peter Clinch heaviest other (slimy mackerel) and Brian Wright (heaviest bag). Junior winners included Taylin Isa ( boys snapper), Cleo Yanni (girls snapper) and Spencer Clinch (slimy mackerel).
Flathead catches dominated on the day with some nice blue spots caught.
Thanks go to our major sponsor of the event being "Claude" at Complete Angler - Bentleigh who again generously supported the club with a range of prizes and vouchers. All BMYS members are encouraged to support Claude and his business when looking for their fishing requirements.
Fishing Committee staff who helped make the event a success included Tim Hipkin (registrations), Max Trist (Weigh Master), Ross Hodge, Peter Clinch, Tav Ng all on the BBQ and food assisted by Greg Fitz. Special thanks to Brian Willis who attended with camera in hand, to record the day.
This competition was the last official fishing event for the year but all "fishos" are reminded that they can still enter fish caught locally on week-ends or public holidays for the annual fishing awards by completing the weigh - in forms located in the weigh - in cabinet at the fish cleaning area.
Enjoy your winter fishing and tight lines.
