Club Trip to Orbost

The Annual Orbost fishing competition has been running for more than 40 years and was once again well attended by Club members fishing from some 14 boats.

Friday was an interclub comp for the BMYS boys and whilst the fishing was a bit slow there were some good fish caught by those in the know. Vince Clarke managed a cracking 1.411KG Bream, John Roberts a Luderick of 1.589kg and Les Sabo the only lure caught fish being a tailor of .249KG

A very pleasant lunch was enjoyed at the slips on Friday with a few well-known locals calling in for a welcome catch up. Thanks to Tim Hipkin for the great steak and Col Elliot and Barry Stewart for helping out.

Saturday’s forecast was for strong winds and the forecast was pretty well spot on. Some boats tried to fish the lake but by mid-morning the calmer settled waters of the upper Brody was host to most, if not all boats.
The fishing was hit and miss on the Saturday with the windy weather.

The Larry Fairless Memorial Perpetual Trophy was taken out by Mitchell Farley (from the Orbost Club) and the Larry Fairless Memorial Trophy for the mixed bag was won by Eddie Gray.

Phil Goodier was the recipient of a special award. Not all details have emerged but apparently his recognition included grounding his skipper’s boat and displaying exquisite reversing skills.

Overall another great trip and we look forward to 2020.
