Fishing Flagship Events
Gala Fishing Competition.
This competition was originally started by a longtime member and past Fishing Director and Commodore Brian McNaughton and continues to be the highlight of the BMYS calendar.
The Gala Competition co-insides with the snapper migration into Port Phillip Bay to ensure a chance for even novices to win a prize.
Held on the 2nd weekend of November the competition is also open to our kindred clubs Wangaratta and District Sports Fishing Club, Knox Club Fishing Club, Orbost Fishing Club, Albury Wodonga Sportsfishing Club and Brighton Central Angling Club. The Gala Fishing Competition runs over the weekend starting on Saturday morning and concludes with the last weigh-in on Sunday at 11:00 am. On the Friday night prior to the Gala Competition many of our members and those competing from other clubs gather at the bar for a meal and catch up. On the Saturday night a roast meal is provided upstairs and there are great raffle prizes to be won. On the Sunday after the last weigh-in a lunch of BBQ and salads is provided prior to the presentation. The best prize is for a secret weight snapper, so everyone has a chance. Prizes are also dedicated to lady and junior anglers to make this event a real family affair.
BMYS are very proud to have the following sponsors for the Gala Competition, which enabled over $10,000 in prizes to be on offer.
Southern Sportfishing, Shimano, Illusion Gas Log Fires, Blue Nautilus Marine, AJ Thomas Campervans, Club Marine, JV Marine, GME, J.M Gillies and Transport Safety Victoria.
Family Fishing Day.
This is a great fun competition which concludes with a BBQ, Presentation and Raffle. Every junior who competes wins a prize for participation, if you have a family, make sure this is an event not to be missed as there is also plenty of kids entertainment and treats.
Proudly sponsored by Southern Sportfishing, 598 Balcombe Road, Black Rock. Wayne Wright generously provides the prizes to encourage more family orientated fishing and enjoyment of our beautiful Port Phillip Bay. Many thanks to Wayne Wright and Southern Sportfishing for the continued support of the event.
